Once tacked up, one can not get out of it and Mistress would then decide whether the hands are clips to the shoulder straps D rings - to give that prancing look - or behind the back.
Once sorted out, reins are attached to the bit and one is lead to where ever Mistress wants to exercise.
Exercise consists of practicing The Steps.
1) High Steps. The legs is raise until the thigh is at 90 degree to the body, before the step forward is taken. 2) Parade Steps. The same as the High Steps but the thigh is not quite as high and the foot is kicked out further forward during the step. 3) The Salute - The foot is kicked out forward until the leg is straight and the foot is about 6” off the ground. Then the other leg is lowered until the heel of the hovering foot touches the ground, then you straighten the leg, rise and bring the saluting foot back in again.
This is practiced until Mistress is happy with your progress… which can take hours.
